I'm between loads of laundry and the baby is napping... which means it's blogging time! Right now I'm watching it rain/hail/snow/whatever it feels like at the moment. I guess that's why they say all those things about March and lions... AZ doesn't have lions, just summertime 10 months out of the year. And still I miss it... but not the heat so much... I'm really digging this Idaho weather.
I've been so crazily productive today! I cleaned off the nightstand and Thomas' desk and put away all the crazy papers and cleaned up the baby's room and put away old clothes that don't fit her and old clothes that don't fit me anymore... (breathe)(breathe) AND I'm doing like 5 loads of laundry and I'm about to do some ironing that has been piling up and tidied up the house in general and rehearsed with one of my gals I accompany for and took out the trash and... (breathe)(breathe) lots of other stuff I probably already forgot involving dishes and poopy diapers. Whew! And I still have like half the day left! Wahoo!!! I love being productive... it's so amazingly wonderful! It makes me feel so powerful!
So we had an interesting experience last night. Well, actually I had an interesting experience this morning- Thomas wasn't around or conscious for this episode. But its so funny I had to make sure I made time to get on here and blog about it.
So... Audrey hasn't been sleeping too well lately, usually waking up every hour or two, just needing to know Mom was still kickin around. Last night was really bad- she wouldn't sleep unless I was holding her and it got to the point somewhere between 12 and 1am that I said- "I'm tired... I'll just get an hour's worth of sleep and then I'll wake up with her again." So I switched off the baby monitor and I set my alarm for an hour later. Next thing I know, I hear Thomas awake and getting dressed for the day, and I roll over and look at the clock- 7:00. I think, "wow, the baby sure slept well last night, I don't remember getting up much with her". I look over at Thomas and he says- "Hey, you turned off the baby monitor last night," and I blink a little, still rather groggy, and I said- "OH! yeah I guess I did..." and I remember my grand plans to wake up... and at first I felt really bad that I slept through my alarm and Thomas' alarm... and Thomas said something very wise about me really needing my sleep and she's gotta learn to sleep on her own sometime... and I felt better. So I (being extremely rested, having gotten 6 hours of consecutive sleep which hasn't happened since well before Christmas) decided to get up and say my prayers and read scriptures and be a good girl. I did go back to sleep for a little bit after that, and around 8:30 Audrey wakes up and skips the whimpering or babbling and goes straight for the screaming. So I jump up and skip into the baby's room to greet my darling child. WEEELLLL.... she survived the night on her own! But upon further examination, apparently somewhere in her thrashings and wailings that I didn't hear or witness, her diaper (which happened to be cloth this fortuitous night), lo and behold, has scooted down her bum a bit so that every time she peed it went all over her. So her pajama legs and bottom are all soaked, all the way through her jammies and swaddler and blankie and to the sheets. Because her jammie legs were all wet her legs and feet are all freezing! Poor baby! And as I peel her wet and cold clothing off her little legs I realize that the pee is not alone... apparently she also pooped during the night (which she has almost never done) and had to sit on that for who knows how long. I felt like a horrible mommy at first... but now I think it's so hilarious. And I had to call Thomas and tell him the story and he thought it was hilarious also. As of this moment Audrey has taken one three hour nap, and going on another hour's worth of naps. I think it's safe to say she's a little worn out. :)
Poor kid! But how could you have known she would do that? I think if you try it again it wouldn't happen quite that way. :) good news - she still likes you! I love babies!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great story and the first one of many more I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteGood job on getting so much done!!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry, Justin did that to Garrett once. He usually changes Garrett during the midnight feedings and one night he was so tired and put the diaper halfway down Garrett's butt. So when I got up in the morning to change him, he was just about how Audrey was - totally soaked with poop everywhere.
Oh the good memories.....haha
HAHAHAH!!! Poor baby! Poor you having to clean up the sheets and stuff! That's really funny...
ReplyDeleteAnd you know, I never had a baby monitor, and some nights my brain shut down and my instincts kicked in and FORCED me to sleep through the wailings (I didn't mind too badly). Take care of yourself, dearliest! :) Audrey is such a sweetheart... hahahhaha
